Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have officially become UK residents, swapping Malibu mansions for a pastoral paradise in the Cotswolds. What began as a post-show hiatus has turned into a permanent relocation, with the couple now fully embracing the British way of life.
“We came for a break and stayed for the quality of life,” Ellen revealed during her first UK public appearance. The timing proved significant – they arrived just before the 2024 US election, and the results cemented their decision to stay. With concerns about LGBTQ+ rights growing back home, the UK offered both security and serenity.
Ellen’s social media now showcases a very different lifestyle from her Hollywood days: morning walks through misty fields, visits to historic pubs, and the simple joys of country living. “There’s magic in these stone cottages and village greens,” she says. “We wake up to beauty every single day.” The couple has even imported Portia’s horses and started keeping chickens.
The move also represents a personal rebirth after the controversy surrounding her show’s end. “Labels stick,” Ellen reflects about the “mean” accusations, “but here, I’m just another person enjoying life.” In the welcoming embrace of rural England, Ellen appears to have found not just a new home, but a renewed sense of self.
