Joy Behar and Steve Janowitz: A Late-in-Life Love That Defies the Odds

Share

Joy Behar isn’t one to rush into things—especially when it comes to love. After her first marriage ended, she met Steve Janowitz, a retired school teacher seven years her junior. But rather than jumping into another marriage, they took their time, dating for a whopping 29 years before finally exchanging vows in 2011.

Now 82, Behar is as sharp and witty as ever on The View, where she’s been a fixture since 1997. Though she briefly left the show in 2013, she returned a year later, proving that sometimes a little break is all you need.

Her relationship with Janowitz, however, has been anything but a break. They’ve built a life together filled with laughter, occasional bickering (mostly about driving), and deep companionship. Behar has joked that Janowitz is the ultimate backseat driver, always telling her when to brake or turn. She even once forgot to put her car in park, leading to an unfortunate encounter with a tomato stand.

But beneath the playful arguments lies a strong partnership. Behar has often said that their ability to laugh at each other—and themselves—is what keeps their marriage strong. They don’t take things too personally, and that’s been key to their lasting happiness.

Outside of her marriage, Behar is a devoted mother and grandmother. Her daughter, Eve, is an artist, and her grandson, Luca, is growing up fast. Family, career, and love have all come together beautifully for Behar, proving that sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for.
