I never thought a simple bread run would turn into one of the funniest moments of my marriage.
It was just another afternoon when I texted my husband, “Hey, can you grab bread on your way home?” No reply. Annoyed, I decided to mess with him. “Having a good time with Valerie?” I typed, smirking at my own cleverness.
His response stopped me cold. “Yeah, actually. We’re near that bakery you like.”
My stomach twisted. Valerie? What? Without hesitation, I bolted out the door and drove straight to the bakery, my mind spinning.
But when I got there—nothing. No husband, no Valerie. Just confused customers and the smell of fresh pastries.
Then, my phone dinged. “Just kidding. I’m at work. But since you’re there… bread?”
I burst out laughing. He’d completely turned my joke around on me.
Shaking my head, I bought the bread—and, fine, his favorite croissants too. When I got home, he was waiting with a triumphant grin.
“Still think you’re the prank master?” he teased.
I threw a croissant at him.
Sometimes, the best moments in marriage come from the unexpected twists—even when they’re at your own expense.
