A massive explosion at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Telangana has killed at least 36 people, with rescue teams still sifting through debris for possible survivors. The blast, which occurred on Monday, June 30, completely destroyed the facility, leaving victims unrecognizable and forcing officials to rely on DNA testing for identification.

The Sigachi Industries plant, located near Hyderabad, was operational with over 100 employees when the explosion ripped through its spray dryer unit. Firefighters battled flames for hours before bringing the fire under control. “The building is completely destroyed,” said Fire Chief G.V. Narayana Rao. “We’re working to clear the site and account for all workers.”

Local officials confirmed that many of the deceased were burned beyond recognition, prompting the need for DNA analysis. Telangana’s government has launched an investigation into the cause of the blast, which remains unclear.

Sigachi Industries, a major producer of microcrystalline cellulose, halted operations at the site and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. The tragedy marks another blow to India’s industrial sector, following a recent Air India plane crash that left hundreds dead.

As rescue efforts continue, questions linger about safety protocols at the facility. Authorities have vowed to conduct a thorough probe to prevent future disasters.
