A tight-knit university community is grappling with unimaginable loss after a car accident took the lives of three University of Wyoming swimmers. Carson Muir, Charlie Clark, and Luke Slabber—all standout athletes—died when their vehicle rolled multiple times near the Colorado border.
The Colorado State Patrol reported the Toyota RAV4 left the road Friday afternoon, ejecting two passengers. Two other teammates survived and were treated for minor injuries. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities are looking into possible causes, including driver error or external factors.
University leaders, including President Ed Seidel and Athletic Director Tom Burman, shared heartfelt statements, calling the loss “devastating” and offering counseling to grieving students. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon joined in mourning, asking the public to keep the victims’ loved ones in their thoughts.
Though the team wasn’t traveling for competition, the tragedy has united the campus in grief. As tributes pour in, the university vows to honor the legacies of these young athletes.
