Jessica visited her incarcerated husband every week, but this time something was different. Mark, usually upbeat during visits, looked like he hadn’t slept in days. His hands shook slightly as he reached for the vending machine snacks.
“Are they working you too hard?” Jessica asked, concerned.
Mark just sighed deeply. “You have no idea, babe. The nights are the worst.”
After the visit, Jessica confronted a guard. “My husband is clearly being overworked! Look how exhausted he is!”
The guard snorted. “Lady, your husband sleeps 18 hours a day. The only exercise he gets is walking to the cafeteria.”
Jessica’s confusion turned to realization when she remembered Mark mentioning his “special projects” at night. The truth dawned on her – her husband wasn’t tired from prison labor, but from running some kind of underground operation right under the guards’ noses!
