The country is rolling out glow-in-the-dark road markings on key highways, aiming to make roads safer when the sun goes down. The luminous paint, which absorbs sunlight during the day and emits a soft glow at night, is part of a larger push to reduce accidents.
Regional Roads Victoria is leading the charge, calling it the “Innovative Package.” Alongside the glowing lines, the project includes upgraded reflective road signs and LED pedestrian crossings that change colors with traffic signals. But not everyone is sold on the idea. Some worry drivers might become too dependent on the glowing markings, while others question the paint’s durability.
Despite the debate, the government is confident this $4 million investment will pay off by preventing crashes and saving lives. After all, better visibility means safer roads—and that’s something everyone can agree on.
