Nicotine-free vaping has been marketed as a safe alternative, but new medical research suggests this assumption may be dangerously wrong. Physicians are particularly concerned about two groups: former smokers who switched to vaping thinking it’s safer, and young people who would never have started smoking but now vape regularly.
Dr. Marianna Nabbout, lead researcher on a groundbreaking vascular study, explains the findings: “We saw immediate negative effects on blood vessels from all types of vaping – including nicotine-free versions.” The research indicates that the very process of heating and inhaling vaporized chemicals – regardless of nicotine content – may trigger inflammation and impair circulation.
With over 2 million U.S. students using flavored e-cigarettes, experts worry we’re creating a new generation dependent on potentially harmful habits.
