How I Handled a Rude Plane Passenger Without Saying a Word

Air travel is stressful enough without dealing with inconsiderate passengers. On my latest flight, I encountered a woman who seemed determined to ruin my peace.

She tossed her long hair over her seat, blocking my screen. I asked her nicely to move it, and she did—for about ten minutes. Then it was back, and this time, she pretended not to hear me when I asked again.

So, I took matters into my own hands.

I chewed three pieces of gum and quietly stuck them into her hair. When she finally noticed, her reaction was everything I hoped for. “What did you do?!” she gasped.

I stayed calm. “That’s what happens when you don’t respect other people’s space.” I offered to cut the gum out with my scissors, but she declined. For the rest of the flight, her hair stayed neatly tied up—and I enjoyed my movie without interruption.
