Jamal had delivered our pizza every Friday for months, always stopping to chat with my kids about their week. But last Friday was different – he avoided eye contact and left quickly after scribbling something on the receipt: “Look in your shed.”
What I found there – burglary tools and chemical solvents – sent chills down my spine. The police explained these were the calling cards of a crew targeting homes in our area. Our house was clearly next on their list.
