A Widow’s Compassion Saves a Grieving Dad and His Newborn

When Bob Hollis got the call that his wife had given birth, he never imagined he’d return home a widower and a single father. Mary, his second wife, had dreamed of having a child together, but complications during delivery took her life, leaving Bob shattered.

The couple had already adopted three children, driven by Bob’s own experience in foster care. He believed in giving kids a loving home, and finally, after years of trying, Mary became pregnant. Their happiness was cut short when she passed away during their trip to Florida.

At the hospital, Bob met Meredith, an elderly volunteer who understood loss—she, too, had lost her spouse. She helped him through the paperwork and emotional turmoil, but his struggles continued at the airport. Officials refused to let him fly with his newborn without a birth certificate.

With no options left, Bob called Meredith. Without hesitation, she took him and his baby in, offering warmth and comfort during his darkest days. Years later, when Meredith passed, Bob was moved to discover she had left him part of her estate. To honor her, he donated the funds to a cause close to both their hearts—helping children in need.
