My husband’s close friend, Avery, had always been a part of our social circle, and we got along well—until I became pregnant. Almost immediately, she began sending my husband, Scott, a constant stream of unsolicited advice about nutrition, products, and what I should or shouldn’t be doing. While she acted supportive in person, her private messages to Scott were critical and overbearing. It reached a point where it felt like she was judging my every move.
The final straw came when she insisted on hosting my baby shower, even after I politely told her my mother and sister were already planning it. She showed up at my house unannounced with decorations and a strict menu, convinced she knew what was best. I decided it was time to set a clear boundary. On the day of the shower, I attended the lovely event my family had organized while Avery waited alone at my empty apartment, having decorated for a party that wasn’t happening. I sent her a photo of our real celebration with a kind but firm note.
She later confronted me, angry and hurt, and finally revealed her true motive: she had been in love with Scott for years and had been trying to cause tension between us. Scott stood by my side, reaffirming his love for me and our growing family. Though it was a painful situation, it ultimately brought us closer and taught us the importance of protecting our relationship from outside interference. We haven’t heard from Avery since, and we’re now focused on the joy of our new baby.
