The break in the case came from two parallel streams: digital evidence from a shared residence and a critical tip from within the suspect’s own family. The FBI confirmed that Robinson shared an apartment and was in a romantic relationship with Lance Twiggs, a 22-year-old from St. George, Utah, who is described as transgender. While Twiggs is cooperating and is not charged, seized text messages between the two provided crucial intelligence.
According to an affidavit, these communications detailed operational plans, including instructions on retrieving a hidden firearm, specifically mentioning covering it with a towel and monitoring the drop location. The texts also discussed modifying the weapon with a scope and engraving the bullets, indicating a high degree of premeditation. This digital evidence was pivotal in building the timeline of the suspect’s actions. The investigation took a decisive turn when Robinson’s father recognized his son in the publicly released FBI photos of a person of interest.
