Giving a dying patient’s dog a second chance was a kind thing for a nurse to do.

An amazing nurse at Northside Hospital Gwinnett named Kim Still went out of her way to help a dying patient find a new home for their favourite dog. Kim became close with the older woman with cancer who didn’t have any family or kids but loved her Chihuahua, Jax.

As the patient’s condition got worse, her main worry was what would happen to Jax. Since Jax didn’t have any family to care for him, his family told Kim to take him to a shelter. But Kim knew the sad truth: shelters often have trouble finding homes for dogs, and they could be put down.

Kim chose to adopt Jax because she was moved by how much her patient loved him. She said, “I couldn’t bear the thought of him being put to sleep.” The patient felt better because of Kim’s kindness, and she died quietly knowing that Jax was in good hands.

The deep connection between nurses and patients is shown by Kim’s amazing action. “You form connections with some people that you can’t anticipate,” she said. “This was a remarkable experience.”

Jax quickly got used to his new home and showered Kim with love. She said, “He’s the cutest and most loving dog.” “I’ll always have to work to get rid of him.”

Kim won the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses because she didn’t care about herself. Her story makes us value the kindness and hard work of nurses like Kim, who have a lasting effect on the lives of their patients and their beloved pets.

An act of kindness like Kim’s can change the world, especially in a world where kindness can seem hard to find. One person can make a big difference, as shown by Jax’s happy finish.
