The husband of former GMTV star Fiona Phillips has shared a touching insight into their family’s experience with Alzheimer’s disease. Martin Frizell posted emotional tributes on Mother’s Day, reflecting on how the condition has affected his wife since her diagnosis three years ago at age 64.
Sharing a bittersweet throwback photo of a beaming Fiona from before her symptoms emerged, Martin wrote: “If Mother’s Day is difficult, you’re not alone.” The image showed the vibrant television personality that viewers remember fondly from her broadcasting career.
Martin also highlighted Fiona’s proudest achievement – being named “Mum of the Year” in 2007, sharing a photo of her engraved award. He emphasized that this recognition as a mother to their now-adult sons Nat and Mackenzie meant more than any of her television awards.
In a testament to her resilience, Fiona is currently documenting her journey in a memoir called “Remember When,” assisted by Martin and close friend Allison Phillips. The book, scheduled for release next summer, will combine Fiona’s personal story with insights about living with Alzheimer’s, maintaining the warmth and authenticity that made her such a beloved TV figure.
