The issue? Fans don’t cool the air—they just push it around. So on a hot night, you might still overheat, leaving you tossing and turning. And if the room is already cool, that steady breeze can make you uncomfortably cold, waking you up in the middle of the night.

Sleep experts recommend keeping your bedroom between 60 and 67°F (15-19°C) for optimal rest. Instead of relying on a fan, try these alternatives:

  • Layer your bedding: Lightweight, breathable fabrics help regulate temperature.

  • Use a humidifier: Adds moisture without the draft.

  • Try a cooling mattress pad: Great for hot sleepers.

If you absolutely need the sound of a fan, consider a white noise machine instead. Your body—and your sleep—deserve the best conditions possible.
